Just like a boomerang inevitably comes back to its thrower, Andy Buysse’s 13-year professional journey with North Central International (NCI) embraced coming back to NCI when the right opportunity presented itself.

“I worked as a night service manager for four years, took a hiatus from working here for a few years, but knew I wanted to come back,” says Buysse. “Two years later, a day shift position in the service department opened up, and when I stepped back into Andy Hatlestad’s office to ask him about it his response was basically, I was wondering if you were going to apply.”

He hasn't looked back since returning to NCI in his current role in the service department. The complex challenges that present themselves daily are a main factor in Buysse finding success and satisfaction with his current role at NCI in North Mankato.

“With age, comes wisdom. There are many things that I don’t know, and some that I do. I enjoy the fast pace and solving multiple problems all at the same time,” says Buysse. “At the end of the day there is no better feeling than knowing you kept your cool and kept the ship going in the right direction after facing all the obstacles.”

Buysse exemplifies unwavering commitment as an employee at NCI and prioritizes NCI’s goal of exceeding customer expectations in every interaction. He delivers exceptional customer service and always works to go the extra mile to get customers back on the road.

“The best part of the job is when you get a little extra thank you, a letter, a phone call or 5-star Google review,” he says.

The people he works with play a large part in his job satisfaction as well. Much like many other NCI employees, he echoes that the group at NCI is truly like family.

“The single thing I love most about my job is the people I work with. Every single person here, I look up to and admire for doing this work,” he says. “There is no group of people I would rather work with.”

Buysse finds satisfaction fixing complex problems outside of work too – with remodeling houses. He finds great reward stripping a home all the way down to the studs, addressing all the problems and transforming it into a new and fresh space.

When he reaches the point of retirement, he aspires to embrace a Jimmy Buffet type of lifestyle – somewhere in a tropical haven.

“I would love to travel the Caribbean, learn new customs and learn more about history – take a floatplane and island hop, sit in the sun and drink a non-alcoholic beer,” he says. “Maybe sail the ocean and be off the grid for months a time – exploring for sure.”
